The story behind the day out

## An abandoned hall becomes a tropical world

Tropical Islands opened on 19 December 2004. The operator’s anniversary account describes the transformation of an abandoned hall into an indoor landscape with water and sand beaches. The site’s architecture is therefore part of the attraction’s origin, rather than simply a shell around it. Its history illustrates a different park model: a constructed climate and indoor environment become the organizing experience for a leisure destination.
