# Peninsular Malaysia

Peninsular Malaysia’s park history includes the reuse of former mining land for a new visitor destination.

The story behind the day out

## An industrial landscape gets a leisure future

Sunway Lagoon began in 1993 on a former mining site. The operator’s account makes that transformation central to its history: water recreation and entertainment replaced an earlier industrial use. The setting shows why a park’s story can begin before its first attraction opens. In this case, changing the landscape’s purpose was part of creating the destination, rather than merely choosing a convenient site for rides.
