About Chessington World of Adventures
Located southwest of Central London, Chessington World of Adventures Resort is a sprawling entertainment complex encompassing a theme park, zoo, and hotel accommodations. Originally established as Chessington Zoo in 1931, the resort evolved over the years into a multifaceted destination under the ownership of Merlin Entertainments. Now, it offers an array of attractions, including over 40 rides, two on-site hotels, swimming pools, spa facilities, and camping options, catering to families and visitors of all ages. At the heart of the resort lies Chessington Zoo, home to a diverse collection of over 1,000 animals. From majestic western lowland gorillas to playful sea lions and elusive Sumatran tigers, the zoo offers immersive experiences across its various sections. Visitors can explore areas like Trail of the Kings, Sea Lion Bay, Children's Zoo, Amazu, Penguin Bay, and the Sea Life Centre, each offering unique encounters with wildlife. The resort's theme park, Chessington World of Adventures, is divided into themed areas inspired by cultures from around the globe. Guests can embark on adventures through colonial English "market squares," the Wild West, nautical harbor towns, Central European landscapes, ancient Middle Eastern realms, the Far East, and Indian jungles. Among the park's standout attractions are Vampire, Dragon's Fury, KOBRA, Tiger Rock, Scorpion Express, The Gruffalo River Ride Adventure, Mandrill Mayhem, and Croc Drop. Steeped in history, Chessington World of Adventures Resort is situated on the grounds of Burnt Stub Mansion, originally built in 1348. Destroyed during the English Civil War, the mansion was later rebuilt in neo-gothic Victorian style by the Vere Barker family. Over time, the estate transformed into an inn before evolving into the entertainment destination it is today, blending heritage with modern amusement offerings. Chessington World of Adventures Resort continues to expand and innovate, with developments like the recent addition of "World of Jumanji." With its rich history, diverse attractions, and ongoing evolution, the resort promises an unforgettable experience for visitors seeking adventure, wildlife encounters, and family-friendly entertainment.Location sources
