Two parks build a resort at Tokyo Bay

Tokyo Disneyland opened in 1983. Tokyo DisneySea followed in 2001, according to Oriental Land’s corporate history. The dates mark distinct park openings within the same resort development. They also explain a geographical detail that the brand can obscure: the parks use the Tokyo name but are located across the metropolitan boundary in Chiba. The resort’s story is therefore both an entertainment history and a story of the wider Tokyo Bay area.
