Destination guide
The Capital Region’s park history includes a garden created as a place for public entertainment and gathering.
The story behind the day out
Tivoli opened in Copenhagen on 15 August 1843 under founder Georg Carstensen. Its combination of designed scenery, performance, food and amusements connected a park visit with the cultural life of the city. The Mountain Coaster followed in 1914, adding another chapter to an already established destination. The garden’s founding and the ride’s arrival are separate milestones in a long urban leisure history.
