About Alton Towers
Alton Towers makes a virtue of an unlikely setting for a major theme park: an old country estate, with gardens and a Gothic mansion between the rides. The result has a sense of discovery that a flat amusement park cannot easily reproduce. It also means the day involves real distances, so choose your priorities before charging towards the first coaster you see.
Nemesis Reborn, Wicker Man, The Smiler and Oblivion give thrill seekers very different reasons to come. Families with younger children should build a separate plan around the rides they can share, rather than assuming the famous coasters define everyone's day. The gardens offer a change of mood, though they are a walk in their own right rather than a shortcut to every attraction.
Group rides by area and leave space for queues, meals and the journey back to your car. An overnight stay can make the scale easier to enjoy, but the water park, golf and accommodation have their own booking conditions. Follow the resort's signs on the final approach: its official directions warn that sat-nav routes can lead onto unsuitable local tracks.

Visiting with children
Check individual ride requirements before promising a shared itinerary. Give non-riders and younger visitors their own priorities, and make room for meals and rest rather than measuring the day only by ride count.
