About Lisbon Zoo
Lisbon Zoo gives a city break a change of scale: instead of moving between monuments, spend time following the animals and the landscape around them. The Sete Rios location is particularly useful for families, combining a substantial zoological outing with straightforward public transport connections. This is a place to give an unhurried part of the day, not a sight to squeeze between two distant appointments.
The zoo’s history reaches back to 1884, although its present home is at Quinta das Laranjeiras. Animal habitats and the day’s presentations provide the structure of a visit. The former Animax amusement name refers to an earlier entertainment component around the zoo; it should not be used to promise a surviving independent coaster park. Plan around the current zoological programme and the animals the group most wants to see.

Planning your visit
Use the entrance at Praça Marechal Humberto Delgado near Jardim Zoológico metro station and Sete Rios transport connections. Choose a few priority areas, then build in time for food, shade and slower viewing. Consult the current presentation schedule before setting a route, and confirm individual access needs directly with the zoo. A flexible loop with room to pause is more rewarding than trying to match every habitat to a rigid timetable.
